Wow - there has been lots of ups and downs, but The Dog House has been in business for a whole year! Where has the time gone?
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the family, my boyfriend and friends who have made this possible and to the support they've given, as I wouldn't be here today otherwise!! Also, a huge thank you to the clients who have let me know after their pooches - I love them all for different reasons, but without you or them, my business wouldn't be where it is today!
After moving into the house in June 2017 and doing some work towards getting my boarding license from Wiltshire Council (which was granted on the 5th September 2017), I was able to start taking booking for dogs, who needed day care or boarding.
Until June 2018, a majority of my bookings have been boarding, with a few odd days here and there of day care. That surprised me, as I was thinking day care would have been more popular to start with, but I was proved wrong. But since then, I've started getting a couple of dogs coming in for regular day care (regular days every week), which is great!
That has been one of the biggest challenges/lows for me to deal with this past year, looking ahead in my diary and seeing blank days/weeks, not knowing if and when dogs will be coming in. It has put me on edge and made me think if I'm doing the right thing in doing this job and if it's the right thing for me to keep doing, or thinking should I be giving up and looking for a job where I'm guaranteed a regular income. I do love the dogs that come in and the flexibility of working from home but some weeks could be busy, where the next one was extremely quiet. Thankfully, due to the couple of dogs coming in for regular day care has allowed me to calm down and know that I'll be getting to see dogs on a regular basis, have a regular income and a bit more stability. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that summer has been busy with boarding dogs and I didn't really have to think about having spare days/weeks (definitely a high for me!).
